RECYCLE RUSH is a recycling-themed game played by two Alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of pool noodles, representing litter. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces used are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations or by FIRST at the end of the season.
In this game the two competing alliances operate independently of each other. The field is divided into two sides separated by a step that robots are not allowed to cross. There is one alliance on each side of this step. The robot alliances can place totes on the scoring platform for 2 points. They can stack these totes on top of each other and then place a recycling container on top of a stack of totes for 4 points per tote in the stack below up to 6 totes. The teams then have the option to place a pool noodle (LITTER) inside of the recycling container or move it to the LANDFILL section of the field. The LITTER counts for 1 point if it is in the LANDFILL or 6 points if in the RECYCLING CONTAINER. This year ranking is different than years previously where the ranking has been based off of Wins-Losses-Ties. This year the ranking are determined by the teams average score throughout all qualification matches. This ranking continues into the quarterfinal matches where the top four teams advance to the semifinals. Semifinal ranking is the same. Once in the finals however, the winner is determined by the W-L-T format.
