What's Going On
Our 2016 game is "Stronghold". We take "boulders" and try to breach the opposing teams stronghold. To get these boulders on the field we have to bowl them through an obstacle that fits just the ball. The field is separated into two sides, one for the Blue Alliance and one for the Red Alliance, by a step that robots are not allowed to cross. This helps teams by eliminating the need for defense and allows teams to focus on going over obstacles, tossing the boulders into the stronghold. For more information regarding how this game works you can watch the game reveal animation.

We are now one week into our 2015 Build Season and things are going really well. We have already come up with a basic design that we want to pursue for our 2015 robot and have completed the prototype of our pickup that will lift the bins off the ground in order to stack them. We are currently making CAD models of our robot so that we can build more in depth parts and begin assembling the robot. We are also prototyping a mechanism that will move the recycling containers from the step in the center of the field to our alliances half of the field to allow us to score those containers and earn more points. The programmers on the team are hard at work learning how to program the new control system for 2015.

At the beginning of week 3 we are making very good progress. Last week we sent drawings to one of our sponsors Steelhead Metal Corp. They volunteered to cut out and bend our custom sheet metal chassis design. We received these parts Thursday afternoon and proceeded to assemble the chassis and mount motors and gearboxes to it as well as a prototype electrical board. By Friday afternoon we had the chassis driving around the hallway. We also received the metal tubing that we ordered and were able to begin construction of our elevator design. By the end of this week we are hoping to be able to mount the elevator to the chassis in order to see how the drive train reacts to the additional weight and the change in the center of gravity. At this point we can also begin assembling our arm to grab the Recycling Containers from the step during the match.
